Surviving TV Crisis

03 August 2009 by Sandra Winn

Prepare

Marian Aguilera
So your favorite character in a television series was just gruesomely murdered. For example on Los Hombres de Paco (LHDP), the character Silvia Castro Leon was shot and killed on her wedding day, hours after she exchanged vows with her wife.  The blood turned her beautiful white wedding dress into a red blood soaked gown. Her death was so emotional; fans are still mourning her death 3 weeks later.

Now how does one handle the anger, frustration, confusion, sadness, and all the other emotions one feels from losing their favorite character/actress in a television series?

1. Scream at the television, let your anger out, and in this case cry like a baby and scream.

2. Get onto the forums and rant and complain about how stupid the actor and producers were to either leave the show or have the character written off.

3. Start a campaign to fight for the return of the character and the actress (negotiation is always possible, it’s TV)

4. Recruit an army of supporters and begin sending off emails, petitions, and snail mail to the production company, the creator of the series, and the agent of the actor.

5. Create an ad showing voicing your self.

6. Gather statistics about the show, the channel, the character, and demonstrate to the producers and the production company:

a. what an asset he character may be
b. how much impact this character has to the audience domestically and internationally
c. how international audience can actually bring in more revenue through internet marketing and product placement
d. how many fans and viewer you will lose if the series don’t bring the character back
e. how much marketing $$ they will lose in the end

7. Make a fan video with high impact and send it to the producers of the show

8. Join a forum and write fan fiction of an alternate ending

9. Voice yourself and be heard

10. Or you can sit and sulk and just be mad

LHDP is a show I’ve never thought I’d be addicted to (view behavioral addiction) and before I knew if, my favorite character, the red head, was killed off on what could be the happiest day of her life. And I thought this is a relief, I can get my life back. But no, I was so mad, I have to fight to get the character that has been in the show since the third episode back. Hopefully to make the ending less bloody. And now, knowing the reason behind the final episode, I am in awe, giving the producers and marketers prop. Bravo!! But I will fight none the less. It feels good to let them know that ending was too gruesome.

I loved the acting from Marian Aguilera. She did a beautiful job from what she had to work with. And the fact that they used a spoon to perform surgery. I guess I was surprised by the acting coming from this show. It really surpasses all the other actors in the show. MA really drew you in, and made you feel.
